Gerosion receives a grant for women entrepreneurs in Iceland 2016

Recently Gerosion received a grant for 3 M ISK for women entrepreneurs in Iceland (Atvinnumál Kvenna 2016). The grant received is for the project: Sacrificial Casing for Geothermal Wells, which is carried out in collaboration with the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Iceland.

Eygló Harðardóttir, minister of welfare, presented the grant at a special ceremony. Dr. Sigrún Nanna Karlsdóttir the project manager of the project, Helen Haraldsdóttir and Sunna Ólafsdóttir Wallevik received the grant on behalf of Gerosion. Missing on the photo are Kolbrún R. Gerosion receives a research grant from The Energy Research Fund of Landsvirkjun 2016

In the end of February Sunna Ó. Wallevik received on the behalf of Gerosion a research grant for 3 M ISK from The Energy Research Fund of Landsvirkjun 2016 (Orkurannsóknarsjóður Landsvirkjunar 2016). The grant received is for the second year of the project: Value Creation in Icelandic Geothermal Processes: Extraction of minerals and metals, which is carried out in collaboration with the Engineering department of University of Iceland, GEORG and the Icelandic energy companies.

Gerosion receives a grant for the Sacrificial Casing from the Technology Development Fund

Gerosion commences work on the Sacrificial Casing for Geothermal Wells project
In the spring of 2015, Gerosion received a 14 million ISK grant from the Technology Development Fund of The Icelandic Centre for Research for the project: Sacrificial Casing for Geothermal Wells. Contracts for the first year of the project were signed this month and Gerosion is now hard at work making this innovative idea a reality! Gerosion signs a contract with GEORG

Gerosion has signed a contract with GEORG (GEothermal Research Group) for the project: Value Creation in Icelandic Geothermal Processes: Extraction of minerals and metals. The time frame of this extensive project is two years and it will be carried out in close collaboration with partners from academia and the industry. Gerosion is the project leader and the collaborators are the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences of University of Iceland and the Icelandic energy companies; Landsvirkjun, HS Orka, and Orka Náttúrunnar. The project has additionally received funds by the Energy Research Fund of Landsvirkjun.

Summer jobs

Gerosion is looking to hire M.Sc. and B.Sc. students for summer jobs (and possibly for longer). The job entails research work in the laboratory and a literature review regarding the isolation of valuable compounds and metals from; geothermal areas, geothermal brine and industrial processes. Possible utilization of these materials in various industrial processes will also be examined. The job requires proficiency in research and laboratory work, along with experience of literature analysis. Moreover, applicants should ideally have a background in engineering, chemistry, materials science or geology. It is also important that the applicants are capable of working independently and deliver precise work. The jobs involve collaboration with Icelandic energy companies. If there is interest, the work can possibly lead to a funded M.Sc. project. The application deadline is May 20th 2015. Gerosion at the World Geothermal Congress 2015

The World Geothermal Congress 2015 (WGC2015) is currently taking place in Melbourne, Australia. WGC is the largest and most important gathering of the global geothermal community and is held every five years. Representatives from Gerosion are there to keep an eye on the latest developments in the industry, promote the services that we have to offer and to establish new international relationships. The next congress WGC2020 will be held in Reykjavik Iceland in the year 2020.

Gerosion receives a grant for women entrepreneurs in Iceland 2014

Eygló Harðardóttir minister of welfare presented a grant for 1.000.000 ISK to the Gerosion team on Tuesday the 15th of April. The grant is meant to be spent on marketing affairs for the company. 266 applications were filed this year and only 38 projects (14%) received grants.

Since 1991 the Ministry of Welfare has once a year awarded grants to women entrepreneurs in Iceland, 35.000.000 ISK pr. year with the aim of encouraging women to start up their own companies and to increase their access to finance. The ministry awards the grants but the fund is hosted by the Directorate of Labor. 

The requirements for a grant is that the project/company has to be owned by a woman at least 50%, the idea has to be innovative and make jobs in the long run. Grants are awarded for making business plans, for marketing, product development and a wage grant to start up a company. The project cannot be in direct competition with other products/services on the market. On the photo, Kolbrún R. Ragnarsdóttir and Sunna Ó.
